The fact that we may have done wrong at some time in our lives, don't take into account that God forgives us our sins, when we confess them...so they slanted in one way!! Whatcha think?? posted by: Nick F (reply) post date: 12.13.07 (10:10 pm) Lying is not one of the commandments? Well, certainly there is no commandment to lie! But there is a commandment about not bearing false witness. I agree that God forgives us our sins when we confess, but there is more to life here than just not sinning. It is about growing close to God and growing in his love and increasing your love for him-- overcoming that wall of separation between us by the first sin on a personal basis (Which Christ made possible for all men by dying on the Cross, descending into hades, and arising on the third day, thus conquering death) We call this process Theosis/Sanctification. This is done through continuous prayer, worship, loving and serving your neighbor, and participating in the sacraments He established for us and the life of His Church. posted by: Isaac (reply) post date: 12.18.07 (8:45 pm) Reply to: Barnabus1 Bearing false witness includes lying. Rev. 21:8, 1 Tim. 1:10, Rom. 3:4 - liars are included among the lists of transgressors of the law who have no part in the kingdom of heaven, which is derived from the 10 commandments. It is commandment #9. posted by: Isaac (reply) post date: 12.18.07 (8:52 pm) Reply to: Barnabus1 I broke all 10. Including Number 6. Whosoever hates his brother is a murderer, and no eternal life abides within him (1 John 3:15). What about confessing any sin to God saves? Is it the fact that you're remorseful over sin? The bible says that remorse alone cannot and WILL NOT save (2 Cor 7:9-11). If you simply confess and are sorry for your sins, it is not good enough. Why? Because God doesn't just want to forgive you of a few sins, He wants to give you salvation from all of them. Jesus Christ had to die in your place in order to take not only the punishment away, but sin away. God bases His forgiveness on Jesus Christ, not your apology or confession of sins that He already knows you have committed. When you go to the cross, when you see the crucified Jesus and see the glory in why He died for you, THEN your confession is accepted. Then your remorse becomes godly sorrow, a broken heart repentant from sin because you see that you've sinned against God. If you've done wrong in some part of your life, and you've confessed it to God, and you're still unsaved, you're still dead in your sins and are in desperate need of saving from sin. Time doesn't forgive sin. Remorse doesn't forgive sin. Jesus forgives sin. I want to help you. I know I have sort of a mean style of typing (I'm so sorry :-( I don't know how to fix it), but I generally do want you to tell me if you're confused in any way and how I can help you. I'm just one man, but God works through the church to lead those outside to Himself. Anything at all... |
