Saying the words is not enough, but actually living the life Christ told us to and led Himself is the key to obtaining salvation. Christ has made it possible for us, but we have to earn it by accepting Christ and living His life every day to the best of our ability. (Not to say that God doesn't forgive us when we fail, if we are repentant and seek His forgiveness). Just as Christ told the rich man to sell all his possesions, give his money to the poor, and to follow Him, so we must too give up the things of the world and follow Christ. We are called to be in the world but not of it. Remember what Matthew wrote about the Last Judgement. The separation of the sheep and the goats, and what Christ says to each of them. Did you clothe me when I was naked? Did you feed me when I was hungry? Did you visit me while I was sick and imprisoned? This is the way into Heaven, from Christ Himself. "If you are lukewarm I will spit you out of my mouth". The 2 Great Commandments: Love God and Love Thy Neighbor. posted by: Isaac (reply) post date: 01.09.06 (8:02 am) Reply to: nick I realize this now, today. He that has Jesus' commandments and keeps them, it is HE who loves Him, and he that loves Him shall be loved by the Father and Christ will love him and manifest Himself to them. Meaning, if I can't do what He tells me to do, I don't really love Him, can't call myself His slave, and His wrath still abides on me. But I am saved, I am free from wrath, and I do do what He tells me to do! |
